LinkedIn link shortener: posts, articles, and tracked short URLs

A LinkedIn link shortener workflow in Visib: create vlinks for pages you share, count opens in Reporting, and optionally attach CTA overlays. LinkedIn may shorten pasted links when you click Post; Visib analytics still follow the vlink.

Sharing links on LinkedIn

LinkedIn Help (article a521889) states that when you share a link longer than 26 characters, LinkedIn automatically shortens it once you click Post. A typical Visib vlink is about 30 characters, so the URL shown in the feed may be LinkedIn's short link, not the exact string you pasted. You still use Visib to count opens, set custom Open Graph tags on the vlink, and attach optional CTA overlays.

Use the same Visib URL in a post, a comment, or a message when that fits your campaign. Visib records a visit when someone opens the link and a CTA click when they tap the overlay on paths with a CTA attached.

Visib is separate from LinkedIn's feed URL shortening: when you click Post, LinkedIn may replace long pasted links with its own short URL (article a521889). In Visib you choose visib.link or a verified custom domain on the vlink, optional CTA overlays, Social Preview (OG Tags) in the vlink editor, and LinkedIn Insight Tag on links with a CTA attached (Partner ID on the vlink or in Tracking settings).

Step-by-step shortening for many surfaces lives in how to shorten a link.

What Visib gives you beyond a shorter string

Each vlink is a short URL on visib.link or on a custom domain URL shortener hostname after DNS verification. Optional CTA overlays show your offer on top of a page readers already opened, which matches how the Visib features page describes sharing curated content on LinkedIn.

Custom Open Graph title, description, and image on the short URL are edited in the vlink editor; LinkedInBot reads those tags when it requests your Visib URL. Details are on the link preview page. Campaign UTMs and ad pixels on CTA paths are in the analytics and pixels guide. Account-level visit charts and the link click tracker page cover Reporting totals.

Some sites (news, LinkedIn, paywalled content) don't allow being embedded, so a CTA overlay path may redirect without showing the CTA over the live page. Business adds snapshot links (static HTML capture) and the url shortener chrome extension for those destinations. Visib does not paste links for you inside LinkedIn; you copy the Visib URL and paste it where LinkedIn allows links.

How to use a LinkedIn link shortener in Visib

Use this flow when you need a link shortener for LinkedIn with analytics, not a one-off paste of a long URL.

  1. Sign in on a paid plan

Open Visib and sign in with Google or email. Choose Starter (9 €/mo) or Business (19 €/mo). Both let you create vlinks with short URLs on visib.link or on a verified custom domain. New accounts need an active subscription before publishing links.

  2. Create a vlink for the page you share on LinkedIn

In the dashboard, create a vlink with the article, PDF, or landing page URL you plan to share. Attach a CTA overlay when you want Visib to load the destination in an iframe with your offer on top. If the create flow warns that the site blocks embedding (common on news, LinkedIn, or paywalled pages), install the Visib Snapshot Chrome extension to capture a snapshot with your CTA on Business. Open the vlink editor after create to set Social Preview (OG Tags) for LinkedIn cards. Add UTMs on links with a CTA attached (vlinks without a CTA redirect directly and add no UTMs or pixels; snapshot links do not pass UTMs to the destination). Add a LinkedIn Partner ID on the vlink or in Tracking settings to fire the LinkedIn Insight Tag on links with a CTA attached.

  3. Copy the short URL and paste into your LinkedIn post

Copy the Visib short URL. Paste it into a LinkedIn post, comment, or message where LinkedIn accepts URLs. LinkedIn may shorten links longer than 26 characters when you click Post (LinkedIn Help article a521889), so the published post may not show your exact paste string.

  4. Track opens and refresh the link preview if needed

Visib records a visit when someone opens the short URL. Read account totals in Reporting and per-vlink visit and CTA click counts on the vlink detail page. If LinkedIn still shows an old share card after you change OG fields, use LinkedIn Post Inspector to refresh the cache. Visits detected as bots are always left out of the counts.

Choosing a link shortener for LinkedIn

The best LinkedIn link shortener for your workflow is one that matches how you curate: honest visit counts, optional overlays on third-party articles, custom Open Graph tags on the vlink, and LinkedIn Insight Tag on CTA paths when you retarget in Campaign Manager. Visib focuses on vlinks with CTA overlays, custom domains, and click analytics, not on changing how LinkedIn shortens links after you click Post.

Affiliate-specific tagging workflows are on affiliate link tracking. UTM fields on shared LinkedIn campaigns are on UTM tracking link.
