UTM tracking link: build campaigns you can measure

A UTM tracking link tells Google Analytics and other tools which campaign drove a visit. Visib is a utm tracking link builder on every paid plan: set parameters once on a vlink, share a branded short URL, keep your CTA overlay on third-party pages, and read click analytics in the dashboard.

What is a UTM tracking link?

UTMs are query parameters added to a URL. The five you will see most often are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content. Together they answer where traffic came from, through which channel, and under which campaign name.

Manually tagging long URLs is error-prone. Visib stores the fields on each short link and Visib appends them to the destination when the vlink shows a CTA overlay on the live page (not a snapshot), so your newsletter, social post, or ad can use a clean branded link while the landing page still receives a fully tagged URL.

Deeper setup for pixels and reporting lives in the analytics and pixels guide.

How to create a UTM tracking link in Visib

Open the dashboard, create a vlink, paste the page you want readers to land on, and fill in UTM source, medium, campaign, and optional term and content. Visib saves those values on the link and Visib appends them to the destination when the vlink shows a CTA overlay on the live page (not a snapshot), using standard utm_* query names.

Choose a custom domain so the shared address stays on-brand. Starter includes one domain; Business supports five. Pair UTMs with custom slugs on Business (links.you.com/guide) so campaign names are obvious in your CMS and in Visib reports.

UTM link tracking plus CTA overlays

Visib is not only a tagger. Each vlink can load the shared article in a frame and show your call-to-action on top, so readers still see your signup or offer while they read someone else's content. Visib counts visits and CTA clicks on the short link even when the reader never copies the long destination URL.

When you also manage dozens of shares in one place, the link management tool page walks through the same vlink dashboard, domains, and pixels workflow.

Click analytics on every UTM tracking link

Reporting shows visits over the last 30 days and a top-links list across your account. Each vlink detail page shows all-time visit and CTA click totals for that link. That is separate from what Google Analytics sees on the framed destination: Visib measures engagement on the short link and overlay path, while appended UTMs tell the destination site which campaign to credit.

You can also attach GA4, Meta Pixel, Google Ads, TikTok, or LinkedIn tags per link on vlinks with a CTA overlay so third-party tools fire on the click path. Wiring steps are in the analytics and pixels guide.

Appended UTMs vs UTMs on the visit

Appended UTMs are the source, medium, campaign, term, and content you set on the vlink. Visib appends them to the destination when the vlink shows a CTA overlay on the live page (not a snapshot), so the site you send people to records the campaign you intended.

Inbound UTMs are parameters on the URL the visitor used to reach your short link (for example, if they clicked an ad that already carried tags). Visib stores utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign from the inbound URL in the click record. They describe how the visitor found your link, not necessarily the tags you append when the vlink shows a CTA overlay on the live page (not a snapshot).

Branded domains for campaign links

Short links on your own hostname match your brand. Point DNS at Visib, publish vlinks on that domain, and every UTM tracking link in your bio or email matches the rest of your brand.
